Planning - The Best Process

Country Creek Builders completed another home remodeling project in the Spoon Ridge Addition in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Thanks to a process plan, this master suite transformation only took seven weeks. At the beginning of each project, Country Creek Builders produces a schedule using a cloud based construction scheduling program. Schedules for all our projects are produced and sent out to all sub-contractors and suppliers’ weeks before a project begins. This way there is no last-minute scheduling issues. This process prevents delays during the project by having all the materials on hand before we start. All our clients have full access to this program and can see their schedule – so they know what is going to happen and when. In this case, the design, selections, permit application, cabinet production, and plumbing and electrical sub-contractors were scheduled before the project even started. When I first met with the Cron’s to discuss the plan for their master suite remodel, they wanted to address several issues. They included creating a master walk in closet, adding natural light into the space and adding warmth to the bathroom.

Creating Additional Space

This master suite project involved updating the master bedroom, remodeling the master bathroom and designing a large walk-in closet. The existing closet was extremely small (4’ x 5’); not nearly big enough for one person – let alone two. The design called for removing the existing closet providing additional space for the master bath, converting a spare room into the master closet, separating the 5' tub and shower kit into a separate soaking tub and walk in shower, and adding natural light.Once the design was complete and selections were made the Country Creek team went to work. The first task was to close off the spare room entry door from the hallway and frame a new pocket doorway from the master bedroom. This gives the Crons a huge 12’ X 14’ master closet. Once the closet was complete, we had Harkraft install a custom closet origination system.

The Importance of Natural Light

The existing bathroom did not have any windows, making the bathroom feel dark and unwelcoming. Natural light is extremely important in any room of your home, but it is vital in the master bathroom. The new bathroom design placed a soaking tub where the old closet was. The Country Creek team opened up the exterior wall where the new tub was to be placed and installed an LVL header. We also re-framed the wall and installed a three-panel transom window. The window was installed at the top of the wall, allowing natural light into the bathroom while still providing privacy.

White - The Bright, Timeless Look

A custom-built, painted vanity with two matching mirror frames highlighted the design. The vanity features clipped and fluted corners, tapered toes, and a bumped-out center drawer stack, finished with a Supreme White polished marble top. The floor tile is 12” x 24” Gugro White. The shower wall features white subway tile accented with glass mosaic.

Adding Warmth to a Master Suite

Country Creek Builders designed a see-through fireplace between the master bedroom and the master bathroom. Glowing Hearth and Home installed a see through fireplace unit with a modern front. The fireplace finishing is a stacked stone surround from The Tile Shop.
