Expect the Unexpected
Country Creek Builders recently finished an entire main level remodel of a home on Prior Lake. This three-month project included a full demo and remodel of the kitchen, bathroom, dining area, family room, and guest bedroom, with the addition of a walk-in steam shower. As with many older homes, we discovered unexpected issues during the demo that had to be corrected. One serious revelation we came across-a deteriorating garage slab located above the guest bedroom area. When they built house in the 70’s it was common to pour a concrete slab on site with living space below the garage. However, after more than forty years of salt, rain and snow, the garage slab degraded to the point that it’s now unsafe to park cars on it. After consulting a structural engineering firm, we devised a plan to repair the slab. Working closely with the engineering firm, the City of Prior Lake and our concrete company, we completed the repair. Now the remodeling project could continue.
A Kitchen Design that Works
This Prior Lake main level remodel included building and installing Hickory kitchen cabinets with inset doors and drawers, maple interiors, dovetail soft close under mount drawer boxes, and paneled ends on the base and upper cabinets. The homeowners wanted a single level island with a 48” gas cook top and oven located on the island. But because of the large cook top, we needed to install a stainless-steel hood vent above it. The hood vent was designed and manufactured specifically for this project so that it could be installed tight to the ceiling and not obstruct the view for those sitting at the island.
A Steam Shower with Style
The bathroom portion of this project included designing a walk-in steam shower. The shower tile is an 8″ X 24″ Noir Honed Black Travertine tile from the Tile Shop. The shower floor is a Black Cobble tile that ties in with the walls. The accent tile in the shower is a Noir Navajo Travertine architectural style.
The frameless 3/8” shower glass included an air tight door with two stationary panels and one operable transom panel located above the door. The homeowners selected brushed nickel hardware to bring a modern updated feel for this steam shower.
The homeowners also wanted an area by the bathroom and steam shower for guests to store personal items while they were enjoying the lake. Country Creek Builders designed a wooden, painted locker cabinet to solve their storage concerns. The lockers are a huge success for the guests to keep their items separate and safe.
A Concrete Floor
The main level of this lake home is actually on the lower level, so it rests on a concrete floor. After dealing with wet foot traffic from the family and guests, the homeowners wanted a durable floor that was worry free. Removing the carpet and creating a durable, easy to clean floor was high on their list of “wants”. They decided on a stained and textured concrete floor so we ground down the existing concrete for a smooth finish. We created several stained and textured samples on the existing concrete floor, giving the homeowners options as to how they wanted the floor to both look and feel.
Word of Mouth – The Best Source for Finding a Reliable Contractor
This project on Prior Lake went very smooth; it finished on time and on budget, and better than the homeowners expected. They could not help but brag to their friends and neighbors, showing off their newly renovated home. The neighbors were so impressed with the quality and professionalism of Country Creek Builders, that we are currently remodeling their home as well. Sometimes you only have to look to your neighbors and friends to find a great contractor.
With the number of bathrooms and kitchens that Country Creek Builders has remodeled over the years, we have the experience to design and remodel yours; taking the existing space to its full potential. It’s not often that we do both at the same time, but when we do our cloud based scheduling program makes sure that the sub-contractors and suppliers know when they are to be on the job, and what is to be done. This process ensures that the project flows as smoothly as possible. When an issue pops up, we know how to handle it – or call one of our many contacts that can assist.
