Wine Cellars: Why Not?

Home Remodel with Wine Cellar
If you’re thinking about remodeling and want to add a little extra spice to your home but aren’t quite sure what to do, take a minute to consider some of your favorite hobbies or extracurricular activities. Love watching movies and sports? Maybe a custom home theater is the way to go. Have a hankering for some family-friendly competition? We see a recreation room in your future.

While there are many different options to choose from, we see many clients go for the addition of a wine cellar or expanded wine storage area. Whether you’re a longtime avid wine collector or a newly budding connoisseur, having a beautifully designed space to store your bottles and entertain your guests is an excellent way to add a little spark to any home remodeling project.

Here are a few things to think about when considering the addition of a wine cellar:

Space

Yep, you guessed it. The first, and most important thing, to decide is how much space you’re going to need. Are you more of a casual wine lover who just wants something more than a wine rack, or are you an over-the-top wine hoarder who has collected thousands of bottles over the years? Consider what your needs are right now and plan for a few extra racks to give yourself some leeway and the potential to collect more.

Temperature

Most people opt for basement wine cellars, since they tend to have the steady, cool temperature necessary for proper wine storage. But don’t automatically assume that your basement is the right temperature, as they can vary widely between house and from season to season. Talk to your contractor or designer to figure out the best cooling system installation for your particular space.

Entertainment

One of the most fun optional features of a wine cellar is a designated sampling area stocked with glasses, corkscrews, and aerators to use when showing off your wine cellar to guests. This can be a great way to make the room feel like more of an interactive part of your home than simply another specialized storage area.

As always, make sure to give us a call if you’re thinking about adding a wine cellar or any other type of update to your home. We’ll help you figure out what’s right for your unique needs and personality!
